RIP my friend

I am a little sad today ................ an old friend has passed away.  Sue had battled cancer for many years and had such a great positive attitude, but 52 is far too young to go.

Sue & Cathy

Sue, Alan & Cathy

Our old 'gang'
We were quite the gang in our younger years.  I first met Sue in about '74 and we shared a flat in '78 - then as adults, we went our separate ways.   We caught up again in 2006 for another friend's birthday and kept in touch for a little while, but then life got in the way again.

I have so many fond memories of our teenage years together and I am so sad that I didn't keep in touch more often and give her a quick call when I thought about her - which was often - just to say hello  :(

It was really strange, as I was thinking about her on Wednesday ...... I was tidying up my sewing room and came across the "Bean Bag Pal' she gave me for my 18th birthday

Note to self :  make that phone call when you think about it, don't put it off!

A Spotlight sale ...............

at the most perfect timing ;-)   (2nd post for me today ;-))

I noticed around blogland that quite a few people were mentioning the current sale at Spotlight for $1 fat quarters .................... say no more .................. I was there ;-)

The first opportunity for me to get to Spotlight was Saturday afternoon - we were going out to the SAPF (South Australian Photographic Federation) Annual Exhibition on Saturday night, so I got showered and dressed early, and nipped out to my local Spotlight at Clovercrest.

I had fun combing through the selections of fat quarters, and found some excellent buys ;-)

all FQs (except the solid red) were $1

then I found another 6 FQ pack in the same fabrics I am working on for my A4A QAL!
this was not on special, but I was able to use my 20% discount for having my own carry bag ;-)
I got some more black solid too .......... you can never have too much black ;-)

All in all, a great day ............... oh and the SAPF was great too - I got to see the images I entered up on the big screen, along with all the other digital entries.

Bitten by the QAL Bug ;-)

One of my first quilting experiences started with a Quilt Along in 2010 - the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along - it was just perfect for a beginner ;-)

Then, in 2012, I did the HST BOM - you can see photos of the completed items in my Flickr album (I am not sure what has happened to the photos on this blog for the JRSQA - the posts are still here, but the photos seem to have disappeared :( )

Now that I have been well and truly bitten by the QAL bug, I was on the look out for another QAL and discovered the A4A QAL - Aiming for Accuracy Quilt Along run by Quilters Gallery - see link on sidebar to get further information.

It took me a little while to pick out my fabrics - but now that I have, it is full steam ahead.
A4A QAL Fabrics
My Selection
starting with a 6 FQ pack from Spotlight, and adding some Kaufman Night & Day and other black/yellow/white/grey fabrics from my stash

A4AQAL-Block#1
block #1 - think I might redo this one with better contrast

A4AQAL-Block#2
Block #2 - I love how this one turned out

A4A QAL Block#3
Block #3 - this one was a little more tricky and involved a bit of 'reverse' sewing ;-)
