October catch up

Well, I am not too sure what happened to October, but it certainly seemed to disappear very quickly.

I was so very late with most of my block swap commitments.

Hear are my feather blocks for Do Good Stitches - they will be in the post today :)

Feather blocks -01

Feather blocks -02

Thanks to Sharon for providing the background fabric, and the link to this pattern.  The first one took a while, but as I got more comfortable with each block, the quicker I became :)
EDITED: to include a link ;)

This would make an excellent project to use up scrap strips :)

Now onto my November commitments :)

FNSI - show and tell

I managed to spend some time in the sewing room yesterday - along with about 40 others :) (see FNSI link in sidebar)

I am a bit behind in my Do Good Stitches blocks - I managed to complete one of my 'feathers' for October's block.  This block was a bit frustrating in that the directions were not really clear on what size the end result of the block should be - Sharon provided our background fabric, and I really wanted to be sure of the various dimensions before cutting - however, with some consultation with the girls via the Flickr group, I was reasonably confident to start cutting and sewing.

here is my first feather :)

one down, three more to do :)

I also did some other sewing, but that is secret for now and will be revealed at a later date :)

Adelaide Craft & Quilt Fair

I went to the Adelaide Craft and Quilt Fair yesterday - lots of walking around, lots of lovely things to see, lots of inspiration, but I was very restrained in my purchases .............. only getting what was 'needed' ;-)

This is what greeted me when I arrived :)

my very late block for Delphine revealed :)

As I posted earlier, my October block for Delphine was so very late :(

it has now arrived, and I can share a colour photo ;-)

Twisted Star
Thank you Delphine, for being so very patient and courteous during my endeavours to get your block to you :)  I certainly hope my tardiness has not put you off our wonderful swap group :)

My Secret Mini

I took part in Cheryll's Mini Quilt Swap.

The task was to make up a Mini Quilt (complete with hanging pocket) and the theme was Flowers.

I posted a tease photo earlier.

Some of you may remember my post about the 9" Tulip Block I made for a block swap partner - well it bothered me that I couldn't work out the maths, so Mr Fixit very patiently sat down with me and helped me :)
My calculations :)

the back (complete with hanging pocket - my first :) )
It has been posted, I do hope the recipient likes it ;-)

I enjoyed being part of this swap and look forward to next year ;-)

FAwF/FNwF show and tell

Another FAwF/FNwF ............ where are the weeks going?  It will be Christmas before you know it.

I have come down with a shocking head cold - blocked sinuses, sneezing, sore throat, aches in places I didn't know I had places - the whole box and dice :(  and while I really wanted to get a whole heap of sewing done, after running around doing some errands that couldn't wait, and spending a bit of time chasing up some 'one-sided' Christmas Block swaps (that is a post for a later date :( ) I sewed a little, but mostly just faffed around the sewing room   ;-)

I completed a very late October Christmas Swap block for Delphine, who has been most patient with me.  Not a very good introduction to our swap group, when your first swap is late and from the Swap Co-Ordinator herself, no less!  Not a very good example to set :(

Anyway, here is the block I made - you get to see a black and white version - so as not to ruin the surprise, I will post a full colour pic when it is received by Delphine.

a Twisted Star Block for Delphine
I did a blog post about receiving Delphine's block HERE, but will post the picture again, because it is such a beautiful block ;-)

For FAwF/FNwF, I did get a few things done though, I:
  • picked out FQs for 2 birthdays, and 2 swap partners for Fat Quarter Swap for November
  • picked out fabrics for my Christmas Block Swap (x 2)
  • picked out fabrics for my QBSA Block swap
  • played with a layout of blocks in preparation for some secret sewing ;-)
  • applied the finishing touches to my 12inch Mini Quilt top - it is now ready to be put in the mail ;-)
tease photo ;-)
who is it going to?

My day was made a whole lot better when Cheryll sent me an email letting me know I had won a small prize for FNwF for October ;-)
